Description
Bartlett Pear- Calleryana Rootstock
General Information
The Bartlett Pear is still the #1 pear in the world. The name Bartlett has been synonymous with the pear for over 200 years. The Bartlett fruit features and smooth, firm texture and a juicy, spicy taste. The Bartlett carries the true “pear shape”, a rounded bell on the bottom half, then a definitive shoulder with a smaller neck and stem end. If you enjoy crunchy and tart, go for it when it’s green…mild and sweet?…yellow-green is for you…super sweet?…then let it ripen to a golden yellow hue! This multi-use variety is still a favorite, very productive and begins bearing at a young age. Many Early American orchards are gone, but the hardy Bartlett may be the only reminder that an orchard ever existed. Ugly and gnarled with age, it still continues to produce delicious fruit and homeowners don’t have the heart to cut it down as long as it bears fruit!
