Description

Chester Blackberry

General Information

Chester Blackberry will make a great addition to your fruit orchard or landscape area.  This plant will grow potentially to 8 feet in height.  The woody vines grow in a generally upright fashion, drooping over somewhat at the end.  Beginning in mid-spring, pink flowers appear in clusters.  This gives the plant a good deal of ornamental qualities.  After the flowers, the blackberries form, ripening in mid to late July.  The berries are large in size and have a sweet and juicy taste while retaining a firm fruit quality.  The berries are great for fresh eating and for many other culinary uses.  The plant is thornless, making it much easier to pick than many other blackberries.

Additional Information

Rubus fruiticosus ‘Chester’ grows to a height of 4 to 8 feet, with a spread of 3 to 5 feet.  It is recommended for climate zones 5 to 8.  It tends to grow best in full sunlight.  Chester Blackberry grows well in fertile, well drained soils with moderate to average amount of moisture.  The plant is said to have good disease resistant qualities, and is a very easy care plant overall.
