Japanese Upright Yew
General Information
Japanese Upright Yew is the only tree form of Japanese Yew. This yew features rich, dark green foliage that often has a yellow hue on the underside of the branches. It grows in a lovely, pyramidal form. The bark is reddish brown and scaly. Produces attractive, berry like fruits. These bright red, ornamental fruits provide excellent winter interest. Plant in mass for a hedge, screen or border along a driveway. Good for foundation plantings.

Taxus cuspidata ‘Capitata’ can grow in Full Sun to Full Shade. It will grow 25-40′ tall with a spread of 25-35′. Plant in zones 4 to 7. Rabbit resistant. Drought tolerant once established. Tolerates some air pollution. Plant in an area protected from strong winter winds. Susceptible to winter burn. Berries attract birds.
Care & Shipping Notes
Easy to grow in average, well drained soil. Moist, sandy loam is best, but will tolerate other soil types as long as there is good drainage. Poor drainage may result in root rot. Can be pruned in early spring to maintained desired height. No serious insect or disease problems. Blight may occur. Mealy bugs, weevils and scale may be pests.
