Description

Nora Barlow Columbine

General Information

Nora Barlow Columbine is a great plant that could fit well in different areas of your landscape.  It goes well in flower beds, borders, rock gardens, shade gardens, and many other areas. This is a moderately tall perennial, growing to 30 inches high potentially.  It grows in an upright clump, with branched stems holding the flowers above the foliage.  This foliage is fern-like in appearance, with deeply divided leaves.  They have a green-grey color, holding this color all through the growing season.  The flowers are very interesting, with an appearance reminiscent of pom-poms.  There are layers of petals, in dark pink colors with white tips.  These flowers bloom from late spring into the early summer.  If the spent flowers are removed, re-bloom is possible.

Additional Information

Aquilegia vulgaris ‘Nora Barlow’ grows to a height of 24 to 30 inches, with a spread of 12 to 18 inches.  It is recommended for climate zones 3 to 9.  It can grow in full to partial sunlight.  Nora Barlow grows best in well drained soils with moderate and consistent moisture levels.  It does not fare well in poorly drained soils. The flowers are very attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds.
