First Frost Hosta
The foliage of the First Frost Hosta emerges rich, blue-green with a golden margin. The margins lightens to pure white later in the season. First Frost is part of the ‘Designer Series’ of hostas. It is a sport of ‘Halcyon’. Just like its name, it holds its beauty well until the ‘first frost’. In midsummer, 28″ tall scapes of light lavender flowers rise above the attractive foliage. Use in containers. Great as an accent plant for your landscape or perennial garden. Can be planted in mass for an attractive border. Excellent as ground cover under large trees.
Hosta ‘First Frost’ grows best in Full to Part Shade. It will grow 14-16″ tall with a spread of 24-28″. Plant in zones 3 to 9. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Good drought and heat tolerance. Tolerates cool weather well. 2010 Hosta of the Year.
