Description
Conoy Viburnum
General Information
Conoy Viburnum is a great plant that could fit well in many different areas in your landscape. It would work quite well as a low shrub border or to great effect in a mass planting. This is a moderate sized shrub overall. This multi-stemmed shrub grows in a generally spreading fashion. It is a compact plant with dense branching, giving the plant a nice and full overall look. The leaves are oval in shape and up to 4 inches long. These leaves have a highly glossy appearance with a dark green color in the growing season, before turning maroon in the autumn. In the southern climates, Conoy can remain evergreen, with the leaves taking a maroon tint. Flowers form on this shrub in large, up to 4 inch, clusters. The individual flowers are small in size, with pure white petals and a pleasant fragrance. After the flowers, fruits form in clusters, ripening in August. The fruits are a showy red color and quite attractive to the birds.
Additional Information
Viburnum × burkwoodii ‘Conoy’ grows to a height of 4 to 5 feet, with a spread of 7 to 8 feet. It is recommended for climate zones 5 to 8. It can grow in full to partial sunlight. Conoy grows best in well drained soils, with moderate amounts of moisture. It is tolerant of a variety of conditions, including some drought tolerance. There is a better late summer fruit display if two or more of the Conoy are planted together for pollination purposes. They do not have any serious pest or disease issues.
