General Information

Carousel Little Bluestem is a very ornamental perennial grass. It is much more controlled in size than other little bluestems, growing to 30 inches tall.  It grows in a compact and upright overall fashion.  The foliage emerges blue green in the spring, with some accents of pink in the summertime.  In the fall they take on delightful shades of copper, reddish-orange and deep brown.  If left up for the winter, it is beige in color.  Showy seed heads in the fall and winter with silvery-white hairs.     

Additional Information

Schizachyrium scoparium ‘Carousel’ grows to a height of 24 to 30 inches, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 9.  Carousel tends to do best in full sunlight.  It grows well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  Not known to have any disease or insect issues.  Should be trimmed to the ground in late winter to early spring, before any new foliage emerges.
