General Information
Sombrero Baja Burgundy Coneflower is a beautiful plant that fits well in many different landscape settings. It has commonly been used in landscape borders, for the bright colors it has, but can also be used in containers. This is a compact sized plant, so it can provide a pop of color to any small space or area where another plant may not fit. The long green leaves form a nice, low base for the plant. The flowers sit atop long sturdy stems above the foliage. Baja Burgundy blooms over a long period from midsummer into the early autumn. The flowers have a deep red color, with many long oval shaped petals. The center of the flower is a raised brown cone. This flower is great for both cut and dried flower uses. The center cones have seeds and can create winter interest and food for the birds.

Echinacea x hybrid ‘Balsombabur’ grows to a height of 18 to 22 inches, with a spread of 18 to 24 inches. It is recommended for climate zones 4 to 9. It likes to grow in full sunlight. Baja Burgundy can grow in a wide variety of both soil and moisture conditions. This plant is a great attracter of butterflies and is said to have deer resistant qualities.
