Shumard Oak is a moderate to large sized deciduous tree. Nice landscape or park tree, however it should be sited properly to account for its mature size. Grows in a pyramidal fashion, before maturing to an oval shaped canopy. Large, deeply lobed leaves, growing up to 8 inches long. They are shiny and dark green in the spring and summer. In the fall they take on a nice red to brownish-red color. This is an oak tree that can take upwards of 25 years to produce acorns. The acorns are fairly small in size and are very attractive to wildlife.
