General Information

The Scarlet Curls Willow is a very interesting looking tree that could work well in different areas of  your landscape.  This is a smaller sized tree, growing up to 30 feet tall.  It can have many uses in your landscape, an accent tree in a larger area, a centerpiece of a small lawn area  or even as a specimen tree.  This tree has a very interesting structure, with twisted branches and stems.  The long stems give it the weeping effect that many willow trees have.  The older branches have a yellow to golden-brown color, while the new growth has reddish-brown color that intensifies to a scarlet red as the weather turns colder.  This colorful bark gives this tree a wonderful amount of interest year round and a stunning appearance in the colder months.  The leaves add to the decorative appeal of this tree.  They are long and narrow, with serrated edges.  They have a darker green color on the top of the leaf and a white tint on the underside of leaf in the growing seasons, transitioning to a nice golden color in the fall.

Additional Information

Salix matsudana x alba ‘Scarlet Curls’ grows to a height of 25 to 30 feet, with a spread of 15 to 20 feet.  It is recommended for climate zones 5 to 8.  It grows best in full sunlight.  Scarlet Curls grows in a wide range of soils with moderate to moist water conditions.  This is a fast growing tree.  The colorful cut branches of this tree are great for floral arrangements.
