Description

Oakleaf Hydrangea

General Information

Oakleaf Hydrangea is a deciduous shrub. It can be larger in size, reaching 6 feet tall. This shrub is native in areas of the southeastern US. It grows in a generally upright and broadly rounded overall fashion. It can work well when planted in naturalized areas or other landscape settings. The foliage is quite reminiscent of oak leaves. They are of slightly rough texture and dark green in the spring and summer months. The leaves can be a very attractive red to burgundy in the fall. Abundant flower clusters late spring to summer. They emerge bright white in color, taking on pinkish tones as they mature.

Additional Information

Hydrangea quercifolia typically reaches 4 to 6 feet in height, with a similar spread. It is recommended for USDA planting zones 5 to 9. Oakleaf Hydrangea can grow in full to partial sunlight conditions. It tends to do better when protected from afternoon sun. The shrub will do well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
