Green Velvet Boxwood

General Information

The Green Velvet Boxwood is a very hardy, compact, rounded evergreen shrub.  This variety has velvety dark green leaves that hold their color through the winter.  Inconspicuous pale green flowers. It should be planted in an area where it is sheltered from strong winds, full sun and heavy snows.  Removing heavy snow as soon as possible will help eliminate the possibility of broken branches. The Green Velvet Boxwood makes an excellent hedge or specimen plant.  Use in foundation plantings or as a low hedge. Great addition to formal gardens.

Additional Information

Buxus ‘Green Velvet’ grows best in Full to Part Sun. It will grow 2-3′ tall with a similar spread. Plant in zones 4 to 8. Good deer and rabbit resistance. Provide afternoon shade to prevent sun scorch.

Care & Shipping Notes

Plant in average, well drained soil. Trim in early spring.  No serious insect or disease problems. Blight , leaf spot and  root rot may be problems.  Leaf miner, boxwood mite and psyllids may be pests. Mulch to protect roots. Shape during the growing season.  Spray with Wilt-Pruf (anti-transpirant) around Thanksgiving to protect from cold dry winter winds and maintain a glossy green color.  Fertilize with Tree & Shrub Fertilizer in the fall, optional in the spring. NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE IN THESE US STATES AND TERRITORIES: AK, HI, GM, PR, VI. Also, WE NO LONGER SHIP TO CALIFORNIA due to Department of Ag restrictions on live plants.
