Boxwood Shrubs

Boxwoods have become a staple of the American landscape for years. Used in knot gardens, along borders and walkways, as foundation plantings, and mixed into shrub borders, the boxwood has found a home here. It is hard to find something with a more delicate, evergreen leaf than the widespread littleleaf boxwood. It does well in part shade and can tolerate full sun (may require extra moisture). Adaptable to a wide range of soil and site conditions, this evergreen really takes. The flowers are insignificant to humans, but are visited by bees and beetles. There are some disease that are affecting boxwoods, include boxwood blight, but new cultivars are being bred for resistance to diseases. Boxwood can be trimmed into shapes and topiary and are best pruned in May, June, and September.
