Property value is important to all homeowners, especially those looking to sell their home in the near future. An appealing property is an important component of selling a home and the lawn plays an important part of that, but don’t take it from me, listen to the experts! “When selling your home, landscaping determines whether your home feels inviting from the outside. Curb appeal is important to 71% of homebuyers when choosing their abode, according to a 2013 National Association of Realtors survey. Landscaping is a large part of that curb appeal, says Frank J. Lucco, managing director of IRR-Residential Appraisers & Consultants in Houston. That first impression is important,” says Lucco. “If they don’t like the looks of the front of the house, which is mostly landscaping, often they won’t even go inside.”
A landscaping investment could potentially pay a 215% return in home value, says Margaret Woda, a Realtor with Long & Foster Real Estate in Crofton, Md. While you may only recoup 68% of kitchen renovation fees, Woda says landscaping is money well- spent.
Eric King, from King Landscaping in Atlanta comments on lawns. A lush lawn that’s well-graded and healthy is appealing, says King. “This is America. We love our lawns.” He adds that the lawn doesn’t have to be large as long as there’s a focal point or play area. “Take care of it, and keep it beautiful.”
Beauty and Relaxation
Even when not looking to sell your home in the next few years, a lawn care program still has a multitude of benefits. A uniform, green lawn is inviting. It draws us outdoors on our lunch breaks at work or to play in the backyard with our family and friends in the evenings. A healthy lawn without any weeds can be soft for children to play on, whether it is learning how to play ball, walking barefoot to the pool, having tea time with stuffed animals, or wrestling with brothers. It invites the neighbors to take an evening stroll through the neighborhood and comment on the fireflies and other evening charms while they appreciate the beauty that each neighbor adds to the community.
In some communities, it is very important to keep up with the neighbors outdoor appearance. It may even be a requirement from the home owners association to keep your lawn up to a certain standard. In other communities, there are no such guidelines for lawncare. In these cases, consider being the first, the pioneer, to start beautifying your neighborhood. Often times it only takes the determination of one, who then is followed by another, to increase the quality of life of the entire neighborhood!
