The Patterson Onion is a delightful plant that will work well in your garden. It is long day variety onion, meaning that it typically grows best in northern climates. It is a nice sized onion, potentially growing 3 to 4 inches wide. It is yellow in color with a rounded globe shape. It will take generally take 110 to 115 days to come to full maturity. It has great storage potential of 8 to 10 months, under proper conditions. Patterson has a slightly pungent aroma and a wonderful flavor that is perfect for a variety of cooking uses.

Allium cepa x hybrida ‘Patterson’ has a foliage height of 12 to 16 inches and an overall spread of 3 to 4 inches. It is best in USDA planting zones 3 to 6. It can be grown in southern regions, just potentially not quite as well as northern areas. It grows best in full sunlight. Patterson Onion does best when in well drained, fertile soil with at least average amounts of moisture. It is said to have good disease resistant qualities.
