KC Stagecoach Post Oak
KC Stagecoach Post Oak is a great tree for your landscape. This is a larger size tree, maturing at about 60 feet tall. It is a slow growing tree, with a rounded canopy. This tree originated in Northeastern Kansas, and has great hardiness characteristics. The original tree is over 300 years old and was the site of a frontier times stagecoach attack. Very attractive, thick, waxy deep green leaves in the growing season, turning a muted yellow to brown in the fall. Acorns may take a while to be produced, but can be a very important source of food for wildlife.
Quercus stellata ‘Staco’ grows to a height of 50 to 60 feet, with a similar spread. It is recommended for USDA planting zones 5 to 9. It grows best in full sunlight. KC Stagecoach Post Oak does well with average to moderate amounts of moisture in well drained soils. It is adaptable to a variety of soil conditions. This tree is said to have good resistance to diseases and insects.
