Description

Kanza Grafted Pecan

General Information

Kanza Grafted Pecan is a beautiful tree with many great qualities and uses.  This tree is a cultivar of a native pecan, providing natural defenses, with increased qualities from the grafted tree stock.  This a very tall and broad tree in its maturity, growing up to 100 feet in height.  With the size and width of the canopy, this provides great cover for animals and a wonderful shade tree in the summer months.  The tree has long, narrow oval shaped green leaves.  The pecans for this tree are very early to mature, making it a great choice for northern areas of the pecan planting areas.  The pecans are smaller on this tree, about 70 to 80 per pound.  It is an easy nut to crack, and has a great color and taste.  This makes it a favorite both wildlife and people!

Additional Information

Carya illinoinensis ‘Kanza’ grows to a height of 60 to 100 feet, with a spread of 40 to 75 feet.  It is recommended for climate zones 5 to 9.  It likes to grow in Full Sun.  Kanza likes to grow in loamy, well drained soil with at least moderate amounts of moisture.  It does need a pollinator to properly produce the pecan, with the Pawnee tree being the best choice for that.  This tree has shown great cold tolerance, making it outstanding for the northern states.  It also does well in the warmer states.  It has shown resistance to pecan scab, as well as overall great disease resistance.
