General Information
Blackbeard Beardtongue is an ornamental perennial plant. It can grow taller in size, reaching 3 feet tall. The plant is largely upright, with flowers held above the foliage. The leaves are dark green, with deep purple overtones. It keeps a nice appearance throughout the growing seasons. The flowers are tubular in shape, blooming in abundance beginning early summertime. They are light purple to pink in color. Following the flowers, deep burgundy seed pods may form. The flowers are very attractive to hummingbirds and other pollinators!

Penstemon ‘Blackbeard’ reaches 28 to 34 inches in height, with a spread of 18 to 24 inches. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 8. Blackbeard Beardtongue tends to do best in full sun conditions. It will do well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
