Ponderosa Pine

General Information

Ponderosa Pine is an evergreen tree. This tree can grow to be extremely tall in the wild, but can reach up to 125 feet in cultivated areas. It is a great tree for larger landscaping areas or park settings. The Ponderosa Pine will typically grow with a large, straight trunk and has a generally pyramidal form. The tree may have a somewhat open branching structure. Longer needles, largely located near the ends of the branches. The needles will be yellowish-green in color. Interesting furrowed bark, dark brown when younger, yellowish-brown to reddish-brown when older. The Ponderosa Pine will have 4 to 6 inch brown seed cones.

Additional Information

Pinus ponderosa will be 60 to 125 feet tall, with a spread 25 to 30 feet. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 7. Ponderosa Pine will grow best in full sunlight conditions. It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
