Description

Shamrock Inkberry

General Information

Shamrock Inkberry is an evergreen shrub.  It has a number of ornamental qualities that make it great for a variety of landscaping areas.  Used in many areas as an alternative to boxwoods.  It has smaller greenish-white flowers in bloom from late spring to early summer.  If a male inkberry is nearby, black, round berries will mature early fall, persisting into the winter.  The foliage grows in a dense fashion, giving the plant a nice full look.  The small leaves are deep green in color, with a very attractive glossy appearance.

Additional Information

Ilex glabra ‘Shamrock’ grows to a height of 3 to 5 feet, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 9.  Shamrock can grow well in full to partial sunlight.  It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  It has shown adaptability to a variety of conditions.  It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues.
