General Information
The Redwing Onion is a wonderful plant that will do well in your garden. This is a long day variety onion, so it will grow best in the northern areas of the country. This onion can grow moderately large, to a size of 3 to 4 inches. It will typically take 110 to 120 days to come to full maturity. This onion has a tremendous storage potential of up to 8 to 10 months. This is a red onion, with a deep red outer color with internal color that will continue to develop in storage. It has a slightly pungent aroma and is great for slicing and a variety of cooking uses.

Allium x hybrida ‘Redwing’ has a foliage height of 12 to 16 inches and an overall spread of 3 to 4 inches. It is best in USDA planting zones 3 to 6. It can be grown in southern regions, just probably not quite as well as northern areas. It grows best in full sunlight. Redwing onion does its best when in well drained, fertile soil with at least average amounts of moisture. It is said to have good disease resistant qualities.
