Description
Pinky Winky Hydrangea
General Information
Pinky Winky Hydrangea is a moderate sized deciduous shrub with a great deal of ornamental value. Oval to elliptical dark green leaves have serrated edges. The stems grow in a fairly stiff and upright fashion, keeping the large (up to 12 inches long) flower clusters from drooping over. The individual flowers are small, growing in a large cone shaped cluster. The flowers emerge white, beginning at the base of the cluster. As more of the flowers open, they begin to transition to a deep pink color. These flowers emerge beginning in July, lasting into the early fall. Great for cut flower arrangements.
Additional Information
Hydrangea paniculata ‘DVP PINKY’ grows to a height of 6 to 8 feet, with a similar spread. It is recommended for climate zones 3 to 8. It can be grown in full to partial sunlight. Pinky Winky tends to grow best in well drained soils, with adequate amounts of moisture. It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues. Blooms on new growth, so it should be trimmed, if needed, in late winter or early spring before any new growth appears.
