Description

Korean Spice Viburnum

General Information

Korean Spice Viburnum is a delightful ornamental shrub.  It is great in a shrub border, in a foundation planting or a variety of other landscaping areas.  It forms as an upright, rounded shape and moderate in overall size.  The leaves are oval in shape and about 4 inches long.  The leaves emerge dark green, with an occasional coppery flush.  In the fall the leaves change to a nice reddish to burgundy color.  The flowers emerge in early spring.  They begin in a light pink before changing to white.  These flower clusters grow to 3 inches in width and have a wonderful fragrance.  Small berry-like fruits mature to blue-black in color in the late summertime.  These fruits are very attractive to birds.

Additional Information

Viburnum carlesii grows to a height of 4 to 6 feet, with a spread 4 to 7 feet.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 7.  It can grow well in full to partial sunlight.  Korean Spice grows well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues.
