Jackmanii Clematis

General Information

Jackmanii Clematis is a very ornamental deciduous vine.  Clematis do grow best when grown with supports, on an arbor , trellis, or a variety of other options.  There are 3 different groups of clematis, on which flowers grow on old wood, old and new wood or on new wood.  Jackmanii can be grown as the second or third group.  While the flowers are the main attraction, the nice deep green foliage provides a nice appearance through the growing season.  The large, up to 7 inches wide, flowers bloom in abundance beginning mid summer.  They are a beautiful deep purple in color.

Additional Information

Clematis ‘Jackmanii’ grows to a height of 7 to 10 feet, with a spread of 3 to 6 feet.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 8.  It tends to flower best in full sunlight.  Jackmanii does like to have a shaded or mulched root zone.  It tends to grow best with moderate amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues.
