General Information

Berry Heavy Winterberry is a deciduous shrub.  It is larger in size, growing to 8 feet tall.  It grows in an overall upright and rounded fashion.  The winterberry provides a good deal of visual appeal, especially in the fall and winter months.  Clusters of flowers appear mid to late spring.  Berries form following this.  They mature to bright red late fall, persisting in the winter.  The berries are quite abundant on the branches.  In the winter, birds are attracted to the berries.  Berry Heavy will need to be pollinated by a male winterberry, such as Jim Dandy or Mr. Poppins.

Additional Information

Ilex verticillata 'Spravy'  grows to a height of 6 to 8 feet, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 9.  Berry Heavy can grow well in full to partial sunlight.  It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.

We treat your plant

like it's ours

  • Before your plant leaves our greenhouse, it’s wrapped and supported to handle the journey ahead. Pots are sealed to prevent spills, plants are gently netted and staked for stability, and boxes are packed with biodegradable peanuts to absorb movement along the way. Thoughtful packaging helps your plant arrive happy, healthy, and ready to grow.

When your plant
arrives

  • Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal. Prompt unpacking, proper watering, and a short recovery period in the shade help plants rebound quickly. Avoid heavy pruning and give your plant time to adjust as it establishes in your landscape.
