Dakota Pinnacle Birch

General Information

Dakota Pinnacle Birch is a great tree that will look good in different areas of your landscape.  This tree was developed at North Dakota State University.  It has a columnar shape, with a narrowly pyramidal growth habit.  The foliage tends to grow in a dense fashion.  In the spring, the leaves emerge with a dark green color.  In the fall the leaves transition to a golden-yellow, lasting for a good period of time.  The bark also provides good ornamental appeal.  It begins when young with a grey to orangish appearance.  Over time this matures to a beautiful white color.  It also begins to exfoliate, giving extra ornamental appeal!

Additional Information

Betula platyphylla ‘Fargo’ grows to a height of 30 to 35 feet, with a spread of 10 to 12 feet.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 7.  It can grow in full to partial sunlight.  Dakota Pinnacle can grow and thrive in a wide variety of soil conditions, and does best with at least average amounts of water.  It does help when mulch is used in difficult weather or planting conditions to provide protection for the root zone.
