General Information
Red Columbine is a delightful native perennial. Its ornamental qualities make it perfect for a variety of partly shaded native plant areas. The plants grow as a clump of foliage, with flowers on stems above. The foliage is a very nice bright green in color. If kept watered, it will keep a nice appearance through the spring and summer months. The flowers are bell-shaped, approximately 1 to 2 inches in size. They are red in color, with yellow accents at the end of the petals. These flowers typically bloom mid spring. Great for attracting hummingbirds!
Additional Information
Aquilegia canadensis grows to a height of 2 to 3 feet, with a spread of 12 to 18 inches. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 8. Red Columbine typically does best in partial sunlight. It does well with moderate amounts of moisture in well drained soils. After establishment, it is said to have good drought tolerance.

We treat your plant
like it's ours
- Before your plant leaves our greenhouse, it’s wrapped and supported to handle the journey ahead. Pots are sealed to prevent spills, plants are gently netted and staked for stability, and boxes are packed with biodegradable peanuts to absorb movement along the way. Thoughtful packaging helps your plant arrive happy, healthy, and ready to grow.
When your plant
arrives
- Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal. Prompt unpacking, proper watering, and a short recovery period in the shade help plants rebound quickly. Avoid heavy pruning and give your plant time to adjust as it establishes in your landscape.
