General Information
Sweet Kate Spiderwort is a great plant that can fit in well in your landscape. This is a shorter perennial, growing to 12 inches tall. This plant grows in a clump, with upright flower stems and long arching foliage. Its compact size makes it a great choice to be placed in a variety of locations. It has interesting foliage. The leaves have an grass-like appearance with long narrow leaves. When in full sunlight, the leaves have a golden yellow color, and light green when in the shade. Flowers form in clusters on the end of the stems in the late spring into the early summer. The individual flowers are purple-blue and are rather small in size, open in the morning and close in the afternoon.

Tradescantia 'Sweet Kate' grows to a height of 9 to 12 inches, with a similar spread. It is recommended for climate zones 4 to 9. It can grow in either full shade or partial shade. Sweet Kate grows best in well drained soils with moderate amounts of moisture. This plant is not know to have any serious disease or insect issues. Once the summer heat sets in, this plant can be sheared down, which will encourage new foliage growth and possible flower bloom in the late summer or early autumn.
