Blackbeard Beardtongue is a perennial plant. It will have an upright overall growth habit, with a good deal of ornamental appeal. The foliage will form lower on the stems. It will be dark green in color with deep purple overtones. This will provide the plant with a nice appearance through the growing seasons. The flowers of the Blackbeard Beardtongue are tubular in shape, light purple exterior, whiter interior. Blooms in abundance in the early to midsummer time. Burgundy colored seedpods follow the flowers. Attracts hummingbirds!

Penstemon 'Blackbeard' will be 28 to 34 inches tall, with a width of 20 to 24 inches. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 8. Blackbeard Beardtongue will grow well in full sunlight conditions. It will do well with average amounts of moisture in well draining soils.
