General Information
Mongolian Gem Ornamental Onion is a very nice perennial that will work well in different areas of your landscape. Nice base of foliage, followed by flowers atop tall stems. Long, narrow, arching blue-green foliage forms a growing season long base for this ornamental onion. Foliage can take a bronze-yellow color in the fall. Flowers appear beginning sometime mid-summer, continuing into the early fall. They are 2 inch wide globes of tiny lavender-pink flowers. The strong stems keep the flowers from drooping over. When cut or bruised, the plant will emit an 'onion' smell, but this plant would be for ornamental use only.
