General Information
Prairie Blazing Star is a native perennial plant. It has a native range from the central to southeastern United States. It grows in an upright fashion, with leaves on the lower stems and flowers on the upper stem. Long, up to 12 inch, narrow, densely growing leaves. They are generally medium green in color. Flower spikes, which can be up to 20 inches long, with small individual flowers. They are fluffy in appearance with a rosy-lavender color. The flowers bloom in the summer, opening from the top to bottom of the spike. Great for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds!

Liatris pycnostachya grows 2 to 4 feet tall, with a spread of 18 to 24 inches. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 9. Prairie Blazing Star tends to grow best in full sunlight. It does well with low to average amounts of moisture in well drained soils. It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues.
