General Information
Fire Star Dianthus is a delightful perennial groundcover plant that will look great in different areas of your landscape. It grows as a low mound of foliage, with a slightly spreading nature. The individual leaves are narrow and short, but grow densely, giving the plant a full appearance. The leaves are grey-green in color. In warmer climates, the foliage is evergreen. The flowers are very nice, growing in profusion. The flowers are red, with a crimson center eye. They have a clove like fragrance. The flowers bloom over from late spring into the early summer, with sporadic rebloom during the summer.
Additional Information
Dianthus 'Devon Xera' grows to a height of 6 to 8 inches, with a spread of 12 to 18 inches. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 5 to 8. It grows best in full sunlight. Fire Star grows best in well drained soils, with average amounts of moisture. It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues. Trimming the plant back after initial bloom may promote later summer rebloom.

We treat your plant
like it's ours
- Before your plant leaves our greenhouse, it’s wrapped and supported to handle the journey ahead. Pots are sealed to prevent spills, plants are gently netted and staked for stability, and boxes are packed with biodegradable peanuts to absorb movement along the way. Thoughtful packaging helps your plant arrive happy, healthy, and ready to grow.
When your plant
arrives
- Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal. Prompt unpacking, proper watering, and a short recovery period in the shade help plants rebound quickly. Avoid heavy pruning and give your plant time to adjust as it establishes in your landscape.
