General Information
Sweet Autumn Clematis is a great vine that could do well in many different landscape areas. This is an extremely vigorous plant that can grow up to 30 feet tall and wide. Clematis falls into 3 different blooming categories, blooming on old wood, old and new wood and blooms on new wood. This plant is in the blooming on new wood category. It is most usually grown on a support of some form such as a trellis, fence, post or pergola. It can also grow as a very dense groundcover, to a foot tall and 10 feet wide. The foliage of this plant provides a great backdrop for the flowers. The leaves are smaller in size and elliptical in shape. They have a leathery texture with a glossy appearance and are deep green in color. The flowers are small, one inch wide, but bloom profusely, nearly covering the foliage at the peak of their bloom. They have 4 narrow petals and are pure white in color, with a strong sweet fragrance. The flowers bloom from August into October.
Additional Information
Clematis terniflora grows to a height of 15 to 20 feet, with a similar spread. It is recommended for climate zones 5 to 9. It can grow in full to partial sunlight. Sweet Autumn will grow best in well drained soils with moderate amounts of moisture. It should be pruned near to the ground in late fall after the flowering has ended. It does not have any serious disease or insect issues. If not controlled, the plant can aggressively self-seed and become potentially invasive in the wild.

When your plant
arrives
- Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal.
