General Information

Tara Prairie Dropseed is a ornamental perennial grass.  It is smaller in size, making it perfect for a variety of landscaping areas.  This grass grows in a more upright, to vase-like fashion than the native prairie dropseed grass.  The grass leaves are fine and narrow, with a very nice medium green color throughout the growing season.  Fall color is a delightful orange to red.  Loose, open flower heads in the summertime are pink to brown in color.  Seed drop from these flower heads in the fall.

Additional Information

Sporobolus heterolepis 'Tara' grows to a height of 18 to 24 inches, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 9.  Tara grows best in full sunlight.  It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  It is not known to have any disease or insects issues.

We treat your plant

like it's ours

  • Before your plant leaves our greenhouse, it’s wrapped and supported to handle the journey ahead. Pots are sealed to prevent spills, plants are gently netted and staked for stability, and boxes are packed with biodegradable peanuts to absorb movement along the way. Thoughtful packaging helps your plant arrive happy, healthy, and ready to grow.

When your plant
arrives

  • Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal. Prompt unpacking, proper watering, and a short recovery period in the shade help plants rebound quickly. Avoid heavy pruning and give your plant time to adjust as it establishes in your landscape.
