In summertime, soft, feathery spikes rise above the rich, green foliage of 'Karl Foerster'. As they mature, the purple tinted heads turn a lovely, golden, wheat color. This attractive plant is commonly used in landscape designs. It grows well in moist conditions, and has beautiful upright, clump forming habit. It spreads slowly. Common Name: feather reed grass. Plant as a specimen or mass plantings. Great as a vertical accent for the landscape. Can be planted in narrow spaces. Use in low, moist areas or around ponds or streams. Good fall and winter interest. Use in cut or dried flower arrangements. 2001 Perennial Plant of the Year award.

Calamagrostis acutiflora 'Karl Foerster' grows in Full Sun. It will grow 3 to 5 feet tall with a spread of 18 to 24 inches. Plant in zones 5 to 9. Tolerates air pollution. Black walnut tolerant. Attracts birds.
