General Information

Standing Ovation Little Bluestem is a great ornamental grass that can work well in different areas of your landscape.  This grass has shown a great tendency to stay upright, regardless of the soil conditions.  The grass blades tend to be wider than the regular little bluestem grass.  The grass emerges in the spring in a brighter green color in the spring, transitioning to bluish-green, with some red at the tips.  As the fall comes on, the grass takes on colors of red maroon and orange.  It retains its upright growth habit over the winter months, giving this plant good interest all year round.

Additional Information

Schizachyrium scoparium 'Standing Ovation' grows to a height of 2 to 4 feet, with a spread of 18 to 24 inches.  It is recommended for climate zones 3 to 9.  It tends to grow best in full sunlight.  Standing Ovation grows best in well drained soils with average amounts of moisture.  It can grow well in a variety of soil types and has good drought tolerance.  Trim down to the ground in late winter before new spring growth has occurred.  It is not known to have any disease or insect issues.

We treat your plant

like it's ours

  • Before your plant leaves our greenhouse, it’s wrapped and supported to handle the journey ahead. Pots are sealed to prevent spills, plants are gently netted and staked for stability, and boxes are packed with biodegradable peanuts to absorb movement along the way. Thoughtful packaging helps your plant arrive happy, healthy, and ready to grow.

When your plant
arrives

  • Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal. Prompt unpacking, proper watering, and a short recovery period in the shade help plants rebound quickly. Avoid heavy pruning and give your plant time to adjust as it establishes in your landscape.
