General Information

Mohawk Viburnum is more compact than Viburnum  x burkwoodii.  It is a backcross from V. x burkwoodii and V. carlesii.  It was introduced by Dr. Donald Egolf of the U.S. National Arboretum in 1966. The glossy, dark green foliage turns beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red in the fall. 'Mohawk' is deciduous in the winter. In early spring, dark red flower buds appear, which later open to a soft white. Red berry like drupes follow the flowers and add continued interest.  They often persist into the winter and will darken as they mature. The spicy, clove like fragrance of the Mohawk is considered by many to be the most fragrant of the viburnums. Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gold Metal Plant in 1993. Great for a hedge or foundation planting.  Plant as a specimen or group planting. Use in grouping for the best cross-pollination and fruit set.

Additional Information

Viburnum x burkwoodii 'Mohawk' grows best in Full Sun to Part Shade.  It will grow 6-7' tall with a similar spread.  Plant in zones 5 to 8. Attracts birds and butterflies.

We treat your plant

like it's ours

  • Before your plant leaves our greenhouse, it’s wrapped and supported to handle the journey ahead. Pots are sealed to prevent spills, plants are gently netted and staked for stability, and boxes are packed with biodegradable peanuts to absorb movement along the way. Thoughtful packaging helps your plant arrive happy, healthy, and ready to grow.

When your plant
arrives

  • Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal. Prompt unpacking, proper watering, and a short recovery period in the shade help plants rebound quickly. Avoid heavy pruning and give your plant time to adjust as it establishes in your landscape.
