General Information
Fragrant Sumac is a deciduous shrub. It is a shorter shrub, typically growing to 4 feet tall. It is a densely growing, spreading shrub. It has good ornamental appeal, perfect for a variety of landscaping areas. The leaves are a very nice medium green color throughout the spring and summertime. In fall, they turn very nice colors of red, orange and purple. When crushed or bruised, the leaves emit a fragrance. Small clusters of yellow flowers in the springtime. Flowers, typically on different plants, are male and female. In the fall, red berries form on the female plants.
Additional Information
Rhus aromatica grows to a height of 2 to 4 feet, with a general spread of 4 to 6 feet. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 9. Fragrant Sumac can grow in full to part sunlight. It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils. It is not know to have any serious disease or insect issues.
