General Information
Double Play Blue Kazoo Spirea is a great plant that will work well in many different areas of a landscape. This is a small sized shrub, reaching 3 feet tall and wide. This small size gives the option for this plant to be used in many settings. It would be perfect as a low hedge along a walkway, in a landscape border or as an accent plant in a larger foundation planting. Blue Kazoo grows in an upright, mounded fashion, with a densely branched structure creating a nice full overall look. The leaves are small in size, up to two inches long, with a broadly oval shape and serrations along the edges. The leaves emerge in the spring with green-blue color tinted with maroon, eventually maturing into green-blue color for the rest of the growing season. In the fall, the leaves turn a beautiful red color. In the spring, tiny white flowers emerge in large broadly rounded clusters. If the spent flowers are removed, reblooming can occur in the summer.
Additional Information
Spiraea media 'SMSMBK' grows to a height of 2 to 3 feet, with a similar spread. It is recommended for climate zones 4 to 9. It grows best in full sunlight. Blue Kazoo grows best in well drained soils, with moderate amounts of moisture. This plant blooms on old wood, so trimming should occur after the flowers are gone. It does not have many disease or insect issues. It can take some damage from leaf spot, powdery mildew and aphids.

We treat your plant
like it's ours
- Before your plant leaves our greenhouse, it’s wrapped and supported to handle the journey ahead. Pots are sealed to prevent spills, plants are gently netted and staked for stability, and boxes are packed with biodegradable peanuts to absorb movement along the way. Thoughtful packaging helps your plant arrive happy, healthy, and ready to grow.
When your plant
arrives
- Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal. Prompt unpacking, proper watering, and a short recovery period in the shade help plants rebound quickly. Avoid heavy pruning and give your plant time to adjust as it establishes in your landscape.
