General Information

Double Play Gold Spirea is a great shrub that would fit well in many different locations in your landscape.  It is a small shrub, giving it the opportunity to be placed where larger plants would not work.  This plant is perfect for borders or walkways and for providing an accent to larger plants in many different areas.  It grows in a very compact, mounded fashion, with a densely branched structure giving the plant a very nice, full look overall. The leaves are small, about 2 inches long, and are oval in shape with serrated edges.  The foliage emerges a light yellow color in the spring, maturing to a greenish-yellow color over the summer months.  In the fall the leaves turn a wonderful golden yellow color.  The flowers bloom in profusion in the late spring.  They form in rounded clusters all over the shrub.  The individual flowers are a bright pink color and very small.  After the blooms are spent, they should be removed for the opportunity for re-blooming to occur.

Additional Information

Spiraea japonica 'Yan' grows to a height of 18 to 24 inches, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for climate zones 3 to 8.  It grows best in full sunlight.  Double Play Gold grows best in well drained soils with moderate amounts of moisture, but it is fairly adaptable to most growing conditions.  Trimming should occur in the late winter to early spring time.

We treat your plant

like it's ours

  • Before your plant leaves our greenhouse, it’s wrapped and supported to handle the journey ahead. Pots are sealed to prevent spills, plants are gently netted and staked for stability, and boxes are packed with biodegradable peanuts to absorb movement along the way. Thoughtful packaging helps your plant arrive happy, healthy, and ready to grow.

When your plant
arrives

  • Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal. Prompt unpacking, proper watering, and a short recovery period in the shade help plants rebound quickly. Avoid heavy pruning and give your plant time to adjust as it establishes in your landscape.
