General Information

Northern Bayberry is a deciduous shrub.  It is a moderate sized shrub, growing to 6 feet tall.  It is densely branched, with a generally rounded overall growth habit.  It can work well in a variety of different landscaping areas.  The foliage is quite attractive.  The leaves are narrow, with a leathery texture and glossy appearance.  The densely growing leaves are medium green in color.  These plants are most always male or female.  The plants have small clusters of flowers in the spring.  This is followed by clusters of small gray to white waxy coated fruits in the late summer.  These fruits are attractive to birds.

Additional Information

Myrica pensylvanica grows to a height of 5 to 6 feet, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 7.  Northern Bayberry can grow well in full to part sunlight.  It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues.

We treat your plant

like it's ours

  • Before your plant leaves our greenhouse, it’s wrapped and supported to handle the journey ahead. Pots are sealed to prevent spills, plants are gently netted and staked for stability, and boxes are packed with biodegradable peanuts to absorb movement along the way. Thoughtful packaging helps your plant arrive happy, healthy, and ready to grow.

When your plant
arrives

  • Plants may show signs of stress after shipping, such as bent stems or drooping leaves. This is normal. Prompt unpacking, proper watering, and a short recovery period in the shade help plants rebound quickly. Avoid heavy pruning and give your plant time to adjust as it establishes in your landscape.
