General Information
Viking Chokeberry is a deciduous fruiting shrub. It is perfect for use in shrub border, with great fruit production and ornamental appeal. It grows in a multi-stemmed and upright overall fashion. Abundant clusters of fragrant white flowers in the springtime. Following the flowers, berries form. The berries ripen to purple-black the late summer. The tart, nutritious berries are great for jams, juice or other baking uses. Viking Chokeberry also has very nice glossy, dark green foliage, turning red in the fall.
Additional Information
Aronia melanocarpa 'Viking' grows 4 to 6 feet tall, with a similar spread. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 8. Viking can grow in full to partial sunlight. It does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils. It is not known to have any disease or insect issues.
