Description

Venus Dogwood

General Information

Venus Dogwood is a very nice ornamental tree.  It works well as a focal point, in a screening function or in a variety of other landscaping areas.  It is a small, spreading densely branched tree.  The foliage is broadly oval in shape, with a very glossy appearance.  The leaves have a very nice dark green color all through the spring and summer months.  In the fall, the leaves are a wonderful red in color.  The flowers are quite large, growing up to 6 inches in width.  They are creamy white in color and bloom in profusion, almost covering the tree.  These flowers bloom in the late spring to early summer.  In the fall, round, strawberry-like fruits form, adding to the fall season interest.

Additional Information

Cornus x ‘KN30-8’ grows to a height of 15 to 20 feet, with a spread of 18 to 24 feet.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 5 to 9.  It can grow in full to partial sunlight.  Venus does well with average to moderate amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  It is said to have much improved disease tolerance in comparison to other dogwoods.
