Superior Astilbe

General Information

Superior Astilbe is a delightful plant that would fit well in different areas of your landscape.  This plant grows as a mound of leaves, with flowers growing on tall stems above.  The leaves are deeply cut, with a broad fern-like appearance. The leaves are dark green in color.  The foliage grows in 2 foot tall mound, with the flower stems up to 4 to 5 feet tall.  The flowers grow in large, feathery clusters all along the stem.  The flowers have a lavender-pink color, in bloom from early to mid-summer.

Additional Information

Astilbe chinensis var. taquetii ‘Superba’ grows to a height of 2 feet, for the foliage and 4 to 5 feet for the flower stems.  It has and overall spread of 18 to 24 inches.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 8.  It grows best in full to partial shade.  Superior grows best in well drained soils, with average amounts of moisture.  The foliage declines in the warm months if the soil is not kept consistently moist.  It is not known to have serious disease or insect issues.
