Stellar Pink Dogwood

General Information

Stellar Pink Dogwood is a delightful ornamental tree.  This is a moderate sized tree, growing up to 25 feet tall.  It is rounded in shape and well branched, giving it a nice full look.  The leaves are broadly oval in shape and dark green in color, giving the tree a nice appearance all through the growing season.  Once fall arrives, the foliage turns a very nice purple-red in color.  The flowers are 4 petaled and are large in size, at upwards of 5 inches.  The flowers are bright pink, with a white to light pink center eye area.  These flowers typically bloom in mid-spring.  This is a sterile variety of dogwood and does not produce fruits.

Additional Information

Cornus ‘Rutgan’ grows to a height of 20 to 25 feet, with a spread of 15 to 20 feet.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 5 to 8.  It can grow in full to partial sunlight.  Stellar Pink does well with average amounts of moisture in well drained soils.  It has a good deal more insect and disease resistance in comparison to other types of dogwoods.
