General Information
Smoke Signal Little Bluestem is an perennial grass. It will have an upright form and a nice controlled growth habit. The foliage of the little bluestem is typically narrow and finely textured in overall appearance. The leaves will be bluish-green from spring to later summer. They begin to turn scarlet red, transitioning to purplish-red in the fall. Smoke Signal Little Bluestem will have small tan colored seed heads in the fall. This plant will be a nice, ornamental choice for your landscape!

Schizachyrium scoparium ‘Smoke Signal’ will be 3 to 4 feet tall, with a width of 18 to 24 inches. It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 9. Smoke Signal Little Bluestem will grow best in full sunlight conditions. It will do well with average amounts of moisture in a variety of soils. Once established, it will have good drought tolerance.
