General Information
Sentimental Blue Balloon Flower is a great perennial flower that could be used in different areas of your landscape. This balloon flower in a dwarf cultivar, growing up to on foot tall. It works well in flower beds, mixed borders or any small area that needs a good pop of color. Although the flowers are the standout aspect here, the leaves provide a nice amount of interest as well. The leaves are oval in shape with serrated edges and are about 3 inches long. They have a nice green color that contrasts well with the flowers. The flower buds appear in mid summer. They puff up like a balloon, hence the name, before opening to 3 inch wide flowers. The flowers have a beautiful lavender-blue color, lasting for a good period of time.
Additional Information
Platycodon grandiflorus ‘Sentimental Blue’ grows to a height of 6 to 12 inches, with a spread of 12 to 18 inches. It is recommended for climate zones 3 to 8. It can grow in full sun to partial shade. Sentimental Blue grows best in well drained soils with moderate to average amounts of moisture. It is not known to have any serious disease or insect issues.
