Description

Sawtooth Oak

General Information

The long, narrow green leaves of the Sawtooth Oak have a saw tooth like edge. The fast growing, pyramidal Sawtooth Oak will grow 24-36” per season. The unique, acorn caps are covered with long, moss like bristles.  Acorns produce abundantly and are enjoyed by many wildlife including Jays, pigeons and deer.  However the bitter acorns are not the first choice of squirrels. Yellow fall color. The Sawtooth was originally native to Asia.  It was selected for its ability to become established quickly and for its heavy fruit bearing.  Plant along slopes and hillsides to help prevent erosion. Great for naturalized areas.
