Description

Red Twig Dogwood

General Information

Red Twig Dogwood is an ornamental deciduous shrub.  It has a good deal of ornamental appeal.  It grows in a multi-stemmed and rounded overall form.  The leaves are a nice deep green color throughout the growing season.  They turn a nice reddish-orange in the fall, taking on a purplish tint.  In late spring, clusters of small, white fragrant flowers appear.  Small berries form after, maturing to white in color, with a bluish tint.  These berries are quite attractive to birds.  The stems add a good deal of appeal to this shrub.  After a good frost and through the winter time, the stems turn bright red in color.  Great shrub for multi-season ornamental appeal!

Additional Information

Cornus sericea ‘Baileyi’ grows to a height of 6 to 10 feet, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 3 to 8.  This Red Twig Dogwood can grow well in full to part sunlight.  It does well with average to moderate amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
