Description

Red Rover Dogwood

General Information

Red Rover Dogwood is a ornamental deciduous shrub.  This plant is of moderate size, growing to 5 feet tall.  This makes it ideal for a variety of landscaping areas.  The foliage is quite nice.  It is deep green through the growing season.  As fall approaches, the leaves turn purplish, before transitioning to deep red.  Clusters of white flowers appear in the early summer.  Berries form in these clusters, maturing to blue in color in the late summer to fall.  After a good frost and into the winter, the stems of the shrub turn a nice red to burgundy in color.  Great for attracting butterflies and birds!

Additional Information

Cornus obliqua ‘Powell Gardens’ grows to a height of 4 to 5 feet, with a similar spread.  It is recommended for USDA climate zones 4 to 8.  Red Rover can grow well in full to partial sunlight.  It does well with average to moderate amounts of moisture in well drained soils.
